The world is a global village, said the renowned Canadian Professor Mr. Marshall McLuhan. Thanks to the modern-day electronic and digital communication networks for knitting the strands across various continents to develop a global connection. Without a doubt, existence of the software applications and the internet is praised throughout the world, especially in today’s pandemic times. Not denying that everything was already online, but the novel coronavirus lockdown prompted even the non-users to purchase the basics using internet. From groceries to medicines, from clothing to home décor, the online platforms witnessed maximum visits and orders in the past seven months. For a fact, even those physical traders expanded their outreach to grab sales and make a livelihood in this dark phase. Lately, trademark filing by the Tennessee-headquartered Corporation engaged in multinational delivery services, FedEx, captured the media attention.
According to the documents, the trademark application for “FedEx Shop Chain” was filed on July 09, 2020. The mark bearing number 90043954 is filed for services including “administration of a program enabling shoppers to obtain free shipping for online orders; administration of a program that enables retailers and merchants to monitor and manage customer preferences, customer identity and customer profiles, online sales transactions and online shopping accounts including a universal online shopping cart; dynamic inventory and fulfillment planning” under International Class 035 as well as for “shipping and delivery services, namely, pickup, transportation, storage and delivery of packages, parcels and freight” under International Class 039.
The applicant, FedEx Corporation is internationally renowned for its delivery services across oceans. Known and ever-blooming as one of the most trusted delivery agents, the company is applauded for its overnight shipping options along with track-your-package feature.
Connecting dots of all the happenings makes it somewhat clear that FedEx is entering the E-commerce world. The applied classes directly indicate towards shipping-free online orders for the benefit of customers. Not a co-incidence for sure, that such initiative is taken at a time when online commerce is at its peak. Exciting much? Soon there might be another trusted platform to shop from.
When asked for a word regarding the trademark filing, a FedEx spokesperson responded in a deaf and dumb manner. “Per company policy, we do not comment on specifics of projects in the developmental stage”, he said.
