According to the recently published patent, Google is hoping to join the foldable smartphone bandwagon. Earlier Samsung and Huawei first kicked on this trend by announcing their foldable smartphone Galaxy Fold and Mate X at the Mobile World Congress, Barcelona. There is a lot of speculation going on that the other manufacturers will surely follow the same path and Google doesn’t like to be out of the league

As the patent reveals, a smartphone that Google is working on is very similar to the proposed Motorola’s RAZR smartphone with a single inward fold. The device also shares some resemblances with Microsoft Surface Book design as it doesn’t close symmetrically flat. It shows that a small gap between the two halves while closing them and the device could be bent in two different directions depicting “Z-fold display”.

The tech giant poised to enter in the foldable market with a new patent filing but the time will tell how the unique innovation will evolve in the final product.  With a glimpse of simple illustration, it is still exciting to see what Google is planning to gain maximum market share in the foldable smartphone segment.
